CDF HOD (Associate Professor) – Job Description

Position: Head of the Department (HOD) & Associate Professor
Department: Costume Design and Fashion (CDF)

Key Responsibilities

Academic Leadership

  • Lead and manage all academic activities of the department.
  • Plan and implement the curriculum in accordance with university regulations.
  • Ensure quality teaching, learning, and student outcomes.
  • Monitor lesson plans, course files, and academic schedules.

Teaching

  • Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Costume Design and Fashion.
  • Develop course materials, laboratory/studio exercises, and assessment methods.
  • Mentor students in academic, project, internship, and career development activities.

Research and Publications

  • Conduct and publish high-quality research in recognized journals.
  • Guide student research projects and dissertations.
  • Apply for research grants and collaborate with industry and academic partners.

Department Administration

  • Prepare departmental budgets and annual plans.
  • Allocate faculty workload and teaching schedules.
  • Supervise faculty and support staff, including performance reviews.
  • Organize department meetings and maintain academic records.

Student Development

  • Counsel and mentor students.
  • Monitor attendance, discipline, and academic progress.
  • Coordinate internships, industrial visits, exhibitions, and fashion shows.

Industry and Institutional Collaboration

  • Build relationships with fashion houses, apparel manufacturers, and design organizations.
  • Promote internships, placements, and consultancy projects.
  • Organize guest lectures, workshops, seminars, and skill-development programs.

Quality Assurance

  • Coordinate accreditation activities (such as NAAC/NBA, where applicable).
  • Prepare documentation for audits and quality assurance processes.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional and regulatory policies.

Service

  • Participate in university committees and institutional development activities.
  • Perform additional duties assigned by the Principal/Dean.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Costume Design, Fashion Design, Textile Design, or a related field.
  • Ph.D. in the relevant discipline (preferred or required depending on institutional and regulatory norms).
  • Eligibility and experience as per the applicable higher education regulations.
