Position Overview
The Dean / Head of the School of Law will provide academic, administrative, and strategic leadership to the School of Law. The role involves ensuring high standards of legal education, faculty development, academic planning, research, student development, regulatory compliance, and institutional growth.
The Dean/Head will be responsible for maintaining the academic standards of the School in accordance with applicable UGC regulations, Bar Council of India (BCI) requirements, University Statutes/Ordinances, and other relevant regulatory frameworks.
Key Responsibilities

Provide overall academic and administrative leadership to the School of Law.

Develop and implement the School's academic vision, strategic plans, and institutional objectives.

Lead curriculum planning, review, and development in accordance with UGC and BCI requirements.

Ensure effective delivery of undergraduate, postgraduate, and other law programmes.

Supervise and mentor faculty members and promote continuous academic development.

Coordinate faculty recruitment, workload allocation, performance evaluation, and development activities.

Promote high-quality research, publications, funded projects, conferences, seminars, and collaborations.

Encourage interdisciplinary research and collaboration with other schools/departments.

Ensure compliance with BCI, UGC, University, and other statutory/regulatory requirements.

Maintain academic records, reports, documentation, and regulatory submissions.

Monitor student academic performance, discipline, attendance, internships, moot court activities, legal aid initiatives, and placements.

Strengthen industry, legal-practice, judicial, corporate, and academic collaborations.

Promote moot courts, legal aid clinics, internships, seminars, workshops, guest lectures, and other experiential learning activities.

Represent the School of Law before university authorities, regulatory bodies, professional institutions, and external stakeholders.

Support accreditation, inspection, ranking, and institutional quality-assurance processes.

Facilitate faculty and student participation in national and international academic activities.

Ensure effective utilization of academic infrastructure, library resources, research facilities, and other institutional resources.

Perform any other academic or administrative responsibilities assigned by the Vice-Chancellor/competent authority.
Eligibility & Qualification
Essential Qualification:

Ph.D. in Law from a recognized university/institution.

Master's degree in Law with the required academic credentials as prescribed for appointment as Professor of Law.

Must independently satisfy the applicable Professor eligibility requirements under the relevant UGC Regulations.

Minimum 10 years of teaching/research/academic experience as prescribed for Professor-level eligibility.

Minimum 10 research publications in peer-reviewed/UGC-recognized journals or as prescribed under applicable regulations.

Research Score of 120 or the applicable score prescribed under the prevailing UGC Regulations.

Must possess a strong academic and research profile in the field of Law.
BCI Requirement

The candidate must be qualified in Law.

The Head of the Centre/School of Legal Education must meet the qualifications prescribed by the Bar Council of India for holding the position of Professor of Law.

The candidate must satisfy all applicable BCI norms concerning faculty qualifications and academic administration.
Experience

Minimum 10 years of relevant academic/research experience, with eligibility for appointment as Professor of Law.

Basis of Appointment
The Dean/Head of School of Law is not ordinarily a separately recruited post under UGC Regulations. The position is generally assigned to a senior academic, typically the senior-most eligible Professor of the Faculty/School, through rotation or nomination by the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the University's Statutes/Ordinances.
Accordingly, the person designated as Dean/Head must independently satisfy the applicable eligibility requirements for Professor of Law, in addition to meeting the University's requirements for appointment/designation as Dean/Head.
Tenure: As prescribed by the University's Statutes/Ordinances, typically 2–3 years and renewable.
