Job Summary

The Associate Professor & Head of the Department (HOD) is responsible for providing academic and administrative leadership to the Department of Computer Science. The role includes teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses, promoting research and innovation, mentoring students and faculty, coordinating departmental activities, ensuring compliance with university and accreditation requirements, and fostering industry collaborations to enhance academic excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Academic Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and postgraduate Computer Science courses.
  • Develop and update course content in accordance with university regulations.
  • Prepare lesson plans, study materials, laboratory manuals, and assessments.
  • Conduct theory and practical classes using innovative teaching methodologies.
  • Evaluate student performance through internal assessments, assignments, seminars, projects, and university examinations.
  • Guide undergraduate and postgraduate student projects.

Department Administration

  • Provide academic and administrative leadership for the department.
  • Prepare and monitor departmental academic plans and annual activities.
  • Allocate teaching workload and prepare class timetables.
  • Conduct departmental meetings and monitor faculty performance.
  • Maintain departmental records, reports, and documentation.
  • Ensure smooth functioning of laboratories and departmental facilities.
  • Prepare departmental budget proposals and monitor resource utilization.

Curriculum Development

  • Participate in curriculum design and syllabus revision as per university guidelines.
  • Introduce value-added courses, certificate programs, and skill development initiatives.
  • Promote outcome-based education and continuous curriculum improvement.

Research and Faculty Development

  • Conduct research and publish papers in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Encourage faculty members to undertake research, attend conferences, and participate in Faculty Development Programmes (FDPs).
  • Apply for research grants and consultancy projects where applicable.
  • Organize seminars, workshops, conferences, and guest lectures.

Student Development

  • Mentor students on academic progress, higher education, career planning, and personal development.
  • Encourage participation in coding competitions, hackathons, technical clubs, and innovation activities.
  • Coordinate internships, industrial visits, and placement training.
  • Support student clubs and extracurricular activities related to Computer Science.

Quality Assurance and Accreditation

  • Coordinate activities related to NAAC, IQAC, NIRF, and other quality assurance initiatives.
  • Maintain departmental documentation required for accreditation and academic audits.
  • Prepare annual departmental reports and academic performance analyses.
  • Ensure compliance with university and institutional policies.

Industry and Community Engagement

  • Establish collaborations with IT companies and industry partners.
  • Invite industry experts for guest lectures and workshops.
  • Promote internship opportunities, industry projects, and placement activities.
  • Organize extension activities and community outreach programs related to digital literacy and technology.

Institutional Responsibilities

  • Serve on institutional committees such as Admission, Examination, Discipline, Research, Placement, IQAC, and Cultural Committees.
  • Participate in admission counselling, university examination duties, and institutional events.
  • Support strategic planning and contribute to institutional development initiatives.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Principal or Management.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related discipline (preferred as per applicable regulations).
  • Master's Degree (M.Sc. Computer Science / M.C.A. / MTech or M.E. Computer Science or equivalent) with a consistently good academic record.
  • Qualifications should meet the norms prescribed by UGC and the affiliating university.

Experience

  • Teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
  • Administrative experience in academic planning and departmental coordination is desirable.
  • Proven record of research publications, conference presentations, and student mentoring.
